PTFCF Launches Manual for Mangrove Rehabilitation to Support Ecosystems Rehabilitation in Yolanda-hit Areas

The Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PTFCF) launched the “Community-based Mangrove Rehabilitation Training Manual” to provide science-guided protocols for mangrove rehabilitation following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda.

Produced in partnership with Zoological Society of London (ZSL)-Philippines and Foundation for Communication Initiatives (FOCI), the book is an abridged version of “Manual on Community-based Mangrove Rehabilitation – Mangrove Series 1” by Primavera, et al. (2012).

The manual provides for key principles and practical steps for mangrove rehabilitation based on scientific methodology but presented in a popular form so that a broad range of stakeholders can use it.

Attached to the manual is the “Field Guide to Philippine Mangroves” that describes the 32 most common mangrove species in the country.

The Manual and Field Guide were distributed to the Municipal Planning and Development Officers (MPDOs) of Yolanda-hit areas last June 5, 2015 for Eastern and Central Visayas; and last June 18, 2015 for Western Visayas, Palawan and Marinduque.
