Introduction

Let’s start by revisiting the SILG Program 2.0.

Program Overview

The Sustainable and Inclusive Landscape Governance (SILG) Program was a joint initiative of Forest Foundation Philippines and Tropenbos International through the Green Livelihoods Alliance (GLA). It promoted inclusive and sustainable landscape governance in forested landscapes across the Philippines by fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

The dialogues from SILG 1.0 (2018–2020) laid the groundwork for SILG 2.0. These conversations brought together landscape stakeholders, created spaces for shared understanding and catalyzed change in how landscapes were governed.

SILG 2.0 continued these stories, experiences, and dialogues, as it strengthened efforts to build the skills, strategies, and partnerships needed for effective and inclusive landscape governance. It focused on supporting stakeholders to collectively plan, implement, and sustain landscape governance initiatives.

The SILG Program had 3 outcome pathways that were anchored on the Green Livelihoods Alliance (GLA) main pathways:

Pathway A:

Empowering indigenous peoples and local communities

Pathway B:

Linking science and research with programs and policies for climate smart forestry

Pathway C:

Inclusive participation of landscape stakeholders

Knowledge Products

The SILG Program has co-developed a wealth of knowledge products that capture and share lessons, research, and best practices from the landscapes. From policy briefs and research reports to toolkits, training modules, and multimedia resources, these products document the program’s journey, support informed decision-making, and provide guidance for communities, practitioners, and policymakers.

This toolkit was created to support facilitators, educators, youth and community leaders, and advocates in designing meaningful engagements with youth learners.

This publication embodies our commitment to collaboration and inclusive decision-making. It serves a dual purpose: as a guiding resource for civil society organizations, government institutions, academia, and landscape stakeholders, and as a repository of insights and experiences in forest protection.

The toolkit tells the story of a series of dialogues that took place in the Philippines from 2018 to 2020. The series were innovative and daring, as they represent a process of complementary dialogue within landscapes, between landscapes, and higher levels of policy making.
