| Now on its fourth year, the Oscar M. Lopez Center for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management Foundation, Inc. (OML Center) is pleased to announce its call for proposals for the 2016 Resilience Grants. Science and technology have a critical role to play in enhancing the resilience of the sectors of society whose aspirations to develop sustainably are threatened by climate-related risks and disasters. With this in mind, the Center encourages submissions that focus on science-based innovations that will provide opportunities and adaptive alternatives to managing the risks and threats of climate change and variabilities. In an effort to respond to our country’s need for more localized and impact-driven research, knowledge, and tools, the Center is looking for proposals that fill three specific themes: |
| Climate Risk and ResilienceProjects that will support assessments of current and future risks and determine the most appropriate strategies for managing these risksMeasures that seek to strengthen climate resiliency of communitiesClimate Change Impacts on SectorsProjects that will look into climate change impacts on ecosystems and primary industries, society (values, attitudes, climate resilient culture), justice, policy, governance , health, and the private sectorAdvances in Climate ScienceInnovations in climate science that will spur new solutions and have practical application in the areas of climate dynamics and modelling, climate prediction/weather forecasting, GIS and remote sensing, and loss and damage, among othersEarly-stage climate adaptation technologies that will be able to demonstrate practical application of climate science |
| The Center also recognizes that for science to create real impact, innovations and knowledge must be widely understood, accepted, and used effectively by those threatened by risks and disasters, so that they may become catalysts or agents for sustainability themselves. To fill this gap between climate science solutions and user communities, the Center is limiting its acceptance to proposals that can demonstrate utilization/use and impact of project outputs.The deadline for submission of Pre-Proposal Concept Note is 01 December 2016.
