DENR and Green Convergence to Hold the 2nd Philippine Environment Summit in Cebu

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Green Convergence, with the support of Forest Foundation Philippines and Energy Development Corporation, will hold the 2nd Philippine Environment Summit on February 20-22, 2018 at the Waterfront Hotel, Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines.

This year’s theme is “Mainstreaming Innovation for Sustainable Development.” During the event, innovative leaders from the government, civil society, business, academe and the religious sector will present programs and projects that promote sound environmental practices toward sustainable development. About 1,000 participants all over the country are expected to the attend the event. The Summit will provide opportunities for the participants to interact and discuss environmental issues in the country.

One plenary session is on “Preserving Our Heritage of Native Trees.” Mr. Eric Buduan, Senior Program Officer of Forest Foundation Philippines, will share the importance of typhoon-resilient native trees in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Aside from the talks, the participants may also visit the exhibit area which features eco-friendly products and other activities.

The Forest Foundation Philippines has been supporting the DENR and Green Convergence since the organization of the 1st Philippine Environment Summit in 2016. Since its inception, the Summit has been a key instrument in shaping national environmental policies and programs.
