Forest Foundation Philippines Partner with Samsung to Support Reforestation Efforts

As part of its efforts to drive sustainability efforts across its different businesses, Samsung Electronics Philippines (SEPCO) has officially partnered with Forest Foundation Philippines to support its efforts in forest conservation. A signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) was held in the SEPCO offices with the leadership of the organizations present, including the working teams who will execute the partnership.

Established in 2002, Forest Foundation Philippines was created under two bilateral agreements between the governments of the Republic of the Philippines and United States of America. It is a non-stock, non-profit, non-governmental organization providing grants and technical assistance to organizations and individuals that empower the people to protect and conserve the forests.

Under the MOU between SEPCO and Forest Foundation Philippines, Samsung will provide support for the reforestation of an initial 1-hectare of forest in Burauen, Leyte, within the Marabong Sub-watershed through the community partners of Forest Foundation. Samsung members will be encouraged to be part of this sustainability effort through a purchase rewards program and an e-Waste drive – all of which are designed to allow users to have a tree planted in their name by Forest Foundation Philippines.

SEPCO President Min Su Chu says about the partnership, “We are always looking forward to partnering with organizations who have the same values and vision as we do. As we celebrate our 25th year in the Philippines this year, we are constantly looking for more initiatives that will impact the Filipino people in a positive way. Thank you to Forest Foundation Philippines for being our partners in this endeavor.”

Forest Foundation Philippines Executive Director Atty. Jose Andres Canivel is likewise grateful for the support they have received from SEPCO, “The mission of our foundation is to work in the country’s most critical forest landscapes that provide important ecosystem services for regional and local economies, and it is through partnership with companies like SEPCO that we are able to secure additional resources to scale up and sustain the impact of our work. We hope that this will inspire more members of the private sector to lend support to our cause.”
