Knowledge Management Specialist

Background:

Forest Foundation Philippines (doing business as Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation (PTFCF), Inc.) is a non-stock, non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides grants and technical assistance to organizations and individuals that empower the people to protect and conserve the forests. The Foundation was established in 2002 to manage conservation funds by virtue of two bilateral agreements between the governments of the Philippines and the United States of America.

For the next four years, the Foundation continues its mission with a new direction for its strategy. Under the new medium-term Results Framework, the Foundation will continue employing a sustainable forest landscape approach. Through this, the Foundation will implement and cultivate knowledge co-creation and transdisciplinarity to protect and sustainably manage the forests for water, land, and biodiversity, while also fostering forest-related climate action. 

To fulfill the above tasks, the Forest Foundation Philippines is in need of a Knowledge Management (KM) Specialist.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The KM Specialist is responsible for the institutional knowledge management efforts and in facilitating knowledge co-creation and transdisciplinarity within the Foundation and among various actors in the program areas of the Foundation. The KM Specialist shall be required to perform the following duties and functions:

  1. Lead the development and implementation of an institutional knowledge management strategy, with particular focus on knowledge co-creation and transdisciplinarity;
  2. Develop a comprehensive mapping of forest conservation data and information sources, with specific institutional roles and responsibilities, and systems and processes for collecting, managing, and sharing data and information within the Foundation, and with partners and other stakeholders;
  3. Create a mechanism for capturing and documenting key successful outputs and activities of Foundation projects, and work with the Communications Officer to package them into knowledge products and learning experiences adapted to specific stakeholder groups;
  4. Develop a knowledge management system in which relevant data information and knowledge on forest conservation issues are systematically acquired, continuously upgraded, and disseminated internally and externally to counterparts, partners, and other stakeholders as appropriate;
  5. Provide technical assistance to Project Officers, Specialists, and Program Managers/Coordinators on matters related to knowledge co-creation and transdisciplinarity; 
  6. Manage, oversee, and coordinate existing and future knowledge partnerships with local and international organizations;
  7. Manage projects, both grants and consultancies, and oversee institutional programs on knowledge co-creation, organizational learning, and capacity building; and
  8. Perform other tasks as may be required by the Executive Director and/or the Board of Trustees.

Qualifications and Competences:

The KM Specialist must have:

  1. An undergraduate degree in Development Communication, Organizational Development, or any discipline in the social sciences with equivalent professional experience;
  2. Demonstrated experience in implementing knowledge management activities and programs, specifically on knowledge co-creation and inter- or transdisciplinarity. 
  3. Experience in the development sector and/or an advanced degree is/are an advantage;
  4. Proven ability to analyze, contextualize, and communicate scientific and technical information by producing knowledge products, conducting research, and facilitating knowledge sharing and co-creation activities;
  5. Knowledge on forest conservation and natural resource management, and ability to connect such with other complex social-ecological issues;
  6. Knowledge of working with multimedia content and creatively conceptualizing and designing advocacy, information, and communication products; and
  7. Ability to facilitate and manage multi-actor collaborations in various contexts and platforms.

Duration and Place of Work:

This is a regular, full-time position. There will be a 6-month probation period, after which a substantive evaluation will be carried out. The individual contract will be reconfirmed annually by the Executive Director.

The assignment will be based in the Foundation’s office in Makati City, with occasional work travel in various project sites.

The personnel is expected to start no later than June 10, 2024.

Compensation and Benefits:

The KM Specialist will receive a compensation commensurate with qualifications and professional experience. Monthly gross salary ranges from PhP 70,000 to PhP 80,000. Benefits will include mandatory government contributions, insurance (i.e., life, accident, and health), sick leave conversion (up to 10 days per year), monthly allowance (PhP 10,000.00), and annual clothing allowance.
