Forest Foundation Philippines extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dir. Lisa Paguntalan-Marte, Executive Director of the Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PBCFI), its grantee, for being named a recipient of the MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity 2026, and to Dr. Edwino Fernando, Former Trustee of the Foundation and Professor Emeritus of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB-CFNR), for his election as a member of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST).
The MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity is an international recognition conferred on individuals who have made outstanding contributions to biodiversity conservation. Dir. Paguntalan-Marte was recognized for her decades of dedication to conserving the Philippines’ unique biodiversity, particularly through species conservation, habitat protection, and community-based conservation initiatives. Her leadership has helped strengthen biodiversity conservation efforts in the country while inspiring partnerships that protect the Philippines’ rich natural heritage.
Meanwhile, Dr. Fernando’s election to the NAST recognizes his lifelong contributions to forestry, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of the country’s natural resources. A former Trustee of Forest Foundation Philippines, he has been a respected leader in advancing forest conservation, shaping national policies, mentoring generations of foresters and conservationists, and promoting the sustainable management of Philippine forests.
