This year, Forest Foundation Philippines turns 20.

Here’s a look back on what we’ve managed to grow and where we go from here.

Forest Foundation Philippines was established in 2002 through bilateral agreements between the governments of the Philippines and the United States of America.

Supported by the US Tropical Forest Conservation Act, this agreement resulted in the establishment of two Tropical Forest Conservation Funds (TFCF1 and TFCF2).

Through this arrangement—a “debt-for-nature” swap—a portion of Philippine debt to the US is converted into funds that are used by the Foundation for forest protection and conservation activities.

Accelerating Collective Impact for the Protection and Conservation of the Forests

We continue to partner with government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector to develop, implement, and co-finance programs for the country’s most critical forest landscapes, as well as in other areas with high conservation value and climate vulnerability.

Areas of Work

Guided by the sustainable landscape approach, we continue to deepen our commitment through grantmaking that empowers the people and the communities to protect and sustainably manage the forests for water, land productivity, and biodiversity—with the overarching goal of sustaining ecosystem services and forest-related climate action.

Watersheds

We support projects that protect and restore trees and forest cover in critical watersheds, ensuring water security for the communities.

Sustainable Livelihoods

By supporting forest-based livelihoods, we help balance the people’s needs with the conservation of our forests.

Coastal Forest Restoration

We work to rehabilitate mangroves, strengthening community resilience against climate change, while protecting biodiversity and community livelihoods.

Community Empowerment and Leadership for Improved Governance

Through capacity building, we strengthen communities towards inclusive forest governance.

Advocacy

We collaborate with creatives and youth organizations to promote a shared culture of forest conservation.

Research

We support research that generates evidence, informs action, and inspires innovation in forest protection and conservation.
