Policy Researchers on Landscape Governance and Natural Resource Management

May 7, 2018

Forest Foundation Philippines is a non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization established in 2002 through two bilateral agreements between the governments of the Philippines and United states of America, to provide grants to organizations that empower the people to protect the forests.

In March 2017, Forest Foundation entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Tropenbos International (TBI), an NGO based in the Netherlands, to collaboratively promote inclusive and sustainable governance of forested landscapes in the Philippines. To realize the partnership’s goal, a National Environmental Dialogue will be conducted by mid-2018. The dialogue will serve as a multi-sectoral, evidence-based platform for sharing local, national and international experiences and lessons learned and if warranted, policy recommendations that will in turn enable effective landscape governance. An Organizing Committee, composed of representatives from the government, academe and civil society, was formed to spearhead the preparatory activities leading to the dialogue. Given the current political climate in the country, the Committee identified for the dialogue’s emphasis on engaging collaboration among stakeholders and formulating the “Principles of Natural Resource Management and/or Landscape Governance.” These principles may be an input for an effective natural resources management and governance whether or not a shift in the government form will take place and/or changes in the charter will occur.

Part of the preparatory activities of the National Environmental Dialogue is the generation of information through studies on existing policies and laws relevant to natural resource management and landscape governance. With this, Forest Foundation and TBI seeks eight (8) individual policy researchers who will conduct studies on current policies and laws surrounding the identified topics to be discussed during the break-out sessions of the National Environmental Dialogue.
