Forest Foundation Philippines Supports Capacity Building Activity on Landscape Governance

March 14, 2018

Early this year, the Organizing Committee for the National Environmental Dialogue organized a capacity building activity on landscape governance for its member organizations.

During the activity, key concepts about federalism as a form of government were discussed. DILG Assistant Secretary Jonathan Malaya shared the various institutional processes towards the Philippines’ shift to federal government. Meanwhile, Atty. Marlon Manuel, Senior Advisor of Global Legal Empowerment Network, discussed the implications of federalism on environment and natural resource management.

Dennis Rosales, Project Coordinator of the Forest Foundation Philippines, shared that “Through the activity, I learned that there are a number of natural resource management concerns that will exist regardless of the type of government, thus what really is important is to focus on potentially addressing these concerns through landscape and national environmental dialogues.” He added that, “Any type of government has its advantages and disadvantages, and its success mainly relies on the proper implementation of policies.”

To continue the conversations on landscape governance, the Organizing Committee will hold a National Environmental Dialogue on June 2018.

The Organizing Committee for the National Environmental Dialogue is composed of the following organizations: Alternative Law Groups, Haribon Foundation, Forestry Development Center,  Forest Foundation Philippines, Non-Timber Forest Products and Samdhana Institute.
