Forest Foundation Philippines Approves Over PHP 29 M in Grants

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — During its first quarterly meeting for 2020, the Forest Foundation Philippines’ Board of Trustees (BOT) approved over PHP 29 M in medium and large grants to conserve, protect, and sustainably manage the country’s most critical forest landscapes, which include Sierra Madre, Palawan, Samar and Leyte, and Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental.

The approved proposals are listed below:

  1. Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid Philippines, Increasing Calamianes Resilience through Watershed Mapping and Management Planning
  2. Center for Conservation Innovations Philippines, Preparing the Communities of Victoria Anepahan Mountain Range for REDD+ Engagement
  3. Geographic Innovations for Development Solutions, Enhancing Local Development Planning and Governance in Quirino Province through Geospatial and Environmental Modelling, and Capacity Building
  4. Eljay Deldoc, Ang Higanteng Haligi sa Hilaga in HD
  5. Teach for the Philippines, Makabayan, Makakalikasan: Promoting Pro-Environment Cultures in our Communities Through Education
  6. Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, Strengthening the Capacity of the People’s Organizations to Rehabilitate the Mangrove Areas in Macajalar Bay

In 2017, the Forest Foundation launched its 5-Year Grant Program. The overall, long-term goal of the Program is the protection and sustainable management of Philippine forests and its biodiversity. Since 2017, the Foundation has approved over 272 grants, in small, medium and large amounts, totalling around PHP 537 M.

The Forest Foundation, established in 2002 under the Tropical Forest Conservation Agreements signed by the governments of the United States of America and the Philippines, is a non-profit organization that provides grants to organizations that empower the people to protect the forests.
